OCR: The Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang The Mogao Grottoes, also known as the Thousand Buddha Grottoes, is located in the county town of Dunhuang in Gansu Province. It is preserved as a true "treasure house of ancient Chinese art". From the top one gets a view of the sweeping panorama of the 1,600 meter expanse and of the 50 meter high sheer cliff jutting out at the center of the remaining 492 grottoes. Inside the grottoes are 45,000 square meters of murals and 2,400 painted statues.
